Remake’s 35 top tips for glowing skin

Let’s face it – there’s nothing we envy more than someone with gorgeous, glowing skin who looks like they’re practically radiating from the inside out. Idolised all over social media (hello, clean beauty trend!), a luminous complexion is the pinnacle of skincare success – but it might seem like a difficult goal if you suffer from any common concerns such as acne, dryness, rosacea, uneven skin tone, fine lines, or hyperpigmentation.

While we can’t guarantee a glow overnight, what we can do is equip you with a veritable manual full of lifestyle, skincare, and beauty tips that have been proven to boost radiance. From superfood veggies to TikTok skincare trends, here are 35 of the best things you can do for glowing skin.

  • Get 8+ hours of sleep
  • Better sleep means your body has time to heal, which can consequently boost your glow by minimising dark circles and ensuring good blood flow to the skin.

  • Wash your pillowcases – regularly!
  • Not washing your pillowcase can lead to a build-up of dirt and oil from your skin, hair, and the environment, which can in turn cause breakouts – so it pays to stay on top of it!

  • Reduce stress wherever possible
  • Stress can take a huge toll on the body in a myriad of ways, and it’s especially detrimental to the health of your skin, causing dullness and even loss of elasticity over time. The answer? Make small, actionable changes to lower your cortisol and keep stressors at bay.

  • Always wear sunscreen
  • Surely this one needs no explanation… but for the holdouts, all we can say is wear your SPF! Sunscreen is the best and quickest way to protect the skin against damage from UV rays and keep it looking youthful for longer.

  • Quit smoking (or vaping!)
  • Toxins in cigarettes and vapes are harmful to the skin as they cause oxidative stress, lowering the amount of oxygen delivered to the skin, which may mean fine lines and wrinkles appear earlier, and the skin looks and feels dry and dull.

  • Stay on top of your health
  • Whatever your physical health concerns, it pays to stay on top of them as best as you can to give your skin a shot at glowing from the inside out.

  • Keep hair off your face
  • Did you know that the oils from our hair can actually cause breakouts and blemishes? That’s why when you’re crawling towards wash day and your hair is feeling greasy, we recommend tying it up in a ponytail or wearing a headband – your skin will thank us!

  • Drink enough water
  • Quenching your thirst is one of the best things you can do for your skin, as it helps to maintain hydration whilst flushing out toxins. Aim for 8+ glasses or 2 litres a day to keep dullness at bay.

  • Get consistent exercise
  • Adding movement that gets your blood pumping to your routine can circulate oxygen and remove toxins from the body, revealing clearer, brighter, and all-round happier skin.

  • Cool down your showers
  • Hot water can dry out the skin quickly, so consider turning on the cold tap instead, or reducing the length of your showers to avoid unnecessary dehydration.

  • Rest and recover
  • Mindful downtime can help to put the body in the ‘rest and digest’ state, which will in turn, help your skin to regenerate faster and more effectively.

  • Keep sugar to a minimum
  • While sugar isn’t inherently evil like many make it out to be, minimising refined sugars in your diet can reduce inflammation and keep elastin and collagen production at a high.

  • Skimp on the salt
  • Sadly, salt is destined to meet the same fate as sugar if you’re seeking glowing skin. Too much sodium can make the skin puffy, spur on dark circles, and lead to excess oil production.

  • Sip on green tea
  • Green tea is anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and full of antioxidants, making it a go-to ingredient for preventing (hence, ‘anti’) or protecting against skin concerns like redness, dullness, fine lines, and wrinkles.

  • Add kale to your salad
  • Kale is packed full of skin-loving nutrients, including vitamins C and K. Adding some of this leafy green to your salad won’t just benefit your overall health, but it’ll help even out your skin tone and address hyperpigmentation.

  • Opt for antioxidant-rich fruits
  • Many fruits are full of the right stuff for your skin, including citrus (hello, vitamin C!), papaya, mango, pineapple, and watermelon. Increasing the antioxidants you eat will permit your skin to protect itself against stressors and appear young and fresh.

  • Eat healthy fats
  • Nuts, fatty fish, seeds, and veggies like avocado are all godsends for a juicy, glowing complexion, as healthy fats can nourish your skin and increase essential nutrients like omega 3 and biotin.

  • Minimise alcohol
  • Booze doesn’t always equal bad, but in the context of your skin, cutting back on alcohol is often helpful. Overconsumption can lead to dehydration and inflammation in the body, which directly translates to more wrinkles and impedes your natural glow.

  • Look after your gut health
  • Poor gut health can really stress out your skin, causing inflammation, redness, breakouts and more. Cutting out refined and processed foods is the first step to kickstarting your gut health journey.

  • Take your vitamins
  • Vitamins are a great way to ensure your body and skin receive all the nutrients they need to really flourish. Try adding in a multivitamin or supplementing vitamins A, C, D, and E for a healthier complexion.

  • Supplement collagen
  • As we age, our collagen production slows – so by taking a supplement, we can support natural collagen in the body and help our skin to maintain its elasticity and youthfulness.

  • Perform facial massage
  • Facial massage is killer for increasing blood flow to your skin and helping you to destress and wind down from a busy day – so it’s no wonder that these benefits combined can lead to a brighter complexion!

  • Use ice cubes
  • Ice is a natural exfoliator, and the cold can improve blood circulation, giving you a rosy glow. What are you waiting for? Grab a coupla cubes and get to work!

  • Try microneedling
  • Damaging your skin through a process like microneedling stimulates and accelerates the healing process and boosts collagen and elastin as a result.

  • Shave your face
  • Shaving your face with a tiny blade, AKA dermaplaning, is an incredible way to give your skin an instant glow-up, as it exfoliates on the spot and encourages skin cell turnover for a renewed appearance.

  • Keep your tools clean
  • Washing your makeup brushes regularly will prevent a buildup of dirt and grime from transferring onto your skin and blocking your pores.

  • Remove makeup before bed
  • If you’re still going to bed with makeup on, stop right where you are, and grab your cleanser or micellar water. Gorgeous, glowing girls don’t let makeup clog their pores overnight…

  • Know your skin type
  • Understanding your skin and what it needs will be a game changer in the pursuit of glowiness, as it’ll help you pick the right products and address your concerns efficiently.

  • Cleanse – then cleanse again
  • Cleansing is a non-negotiable step for glowing skin, and it’s so nice that we reckon you should do it twice! The double cleanse will ensure your complexion is fresh and clean, and is perfectly prepped for the next steps in your skincare routine. Our pick is the Hello Tangelo Active Enzyme Cleanser prefaced by your favourite gentle cream or oil-based product.

  • Incorporate a serum mist
  • Two-in-one products like our multitasking Teatox Glow Serum Spritz deliver concentrated benefits in an easy-to-use format. Simply spritz onto clean skin, after you’ve cleansed or as needed throughout the day, and enjoy antioxidant protection from green tea and cucumber combined with nourishment from hyaluronic acid (HA).

  • Exfoliate with AHAs and BHAs
  • Manual exfoliation using a scrub should be left in the 2010s – now, it’s all about chemical exfoliation using active ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids. Gentler for those with concerns like dryness, acne, and rosacea, chemical exfoliants like the Remake No BS Liquid Exfoliator delicately lift away dead skin to reveal a fresher, brighter complexion.

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
  • Everybody needs a quality moisturiser in their arsenal – one that is designed to soothe and support their skin concerns. One ingredient that’s fantastic for any skin type is hyaluronic acid, which works (very hard, might we add) to bind water molecules to the skin to retain hydration. Pick up a moisturiser or serum formulated with HA, such as our Skin OJ Antioxidant Moisturiser, to reap the ultra-glowy rewards.

  • Mask it up
  • Masks are a quick-fix way to add brightness and radiance to dull, tired skin. When you’re feeling a little worse for wear, simply slap on a mask with a blend of natural and active ingredients for the perfect pick-me-up. We love the Remake I Want My-Celium Moisture Mask for lots and lots of hydration.

  • Use vitamin C for better brightness and tone
  • The last ingredient you absolutely need to know about for healthy-looking skin is the holy grail of brighteners – vitamin C. This bad boy is elite at refreshing the skin, improving tone and texture, reducing dark circles, and giving you that gorgeous glow in an instant.

  • Find your perfect fake tan
  • If all else fails, a safe way to boost your glow is by popping on a fresh coat of fake tan. With tonnes of formulas out there, it’s easier than ever to find something that suits your skin tone and type. Not so sure about tanning your face? The Remake Fruity Reboot-y Facial Tanning Water has been designed to naturally amp up the bronze with DHA, and is fortified with watermelon to quench dry skin’s thirst.
